Prescription coverage to change Feb. 1, 2010. Click here.
Ohio Medicaid now pays for prescription drugs, diabetic supplies, inhaler spacers, peak flow meters, syringes, needles, alcohol wipes, and condoms that managed care plan members get at the pharmacy. Your Unison Health Plan member identification (ID) card lets the pharmacy know that Ohio Medicaid will cover your prescription drugs and supplies listed above. Ohio Medicaid’s prior authorization and co-payment requirements apply.
Beginning February 1, 2010, prescription drugs filled through retail pharmacies for all Ohio Medicaid consumers are covered through the Ohio Medicaid Program. Drugs administered in a physician office, hospital, outpatient department, clinic, dialysis center, or infusion center will still be covered by Unison Health Plan.
Before they can be given, many of these drugs require prior authorization such as: Antipsychotics (Invega), Blood Modifiers (Factor Products), Botulinum toxin (Botox injection), Enzymes and enzyme inhibitors (Hyalgan), Hormonal Therapy (Lupron), Immunologic agents (Remicade), Oncology chemotherapy (Herceptin), Orthopedic Agents (Lovenox, Arixtra), Recombinant products (ReoPro).
If you are pregnant and after your baby is born, your Medicaid caseworker must add your baby to your Medicaid case. Ohio Medicaid may not pay for prescriptions for your baby until the baby is added to your case. Ask your caseworker for instructions about how to report when your baby is born. When your baby is born, report to your caseworker as instructed so your caseworker can add your baby to your case.
If you have questions or problems with your prescription drug coverage or a pharmacy please contact the Ohio Medicaid Consumer Hotline at 1.800.324.8680 or TTY 1.800.292.3572. The Hotline is open Monday-Friday 7 a.m.-8 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m.-5 p.m. You can also use the website http://jfs.ohio.gov/ohp/bhpp/meddrug.stm for lists of prescriptions that are available at no cost to you, have co-payments, or require prior authorization.
